When my husband asked me if we could go visit his family, I agreed. We only live two and a half hours away, so I assumed we would drive up for the day. However, as we were talking about how we were going to spend our time when we went to visit, I realized that my husband intended on staying the entire weekend, which meant that we’d have to stay the night. Normally, I wouldn’t have cared about sleeping somewhere else, but his family always kept their house so cold. The thermostat settings were sometimes different, but always hovering around 69 degrees and 72 degrees and to me, this was freezing! The guest bedroom had two air vents on the wall, and they hit the bed directly. I personally didn’t believe there were enough blankets on the bed to keep warm. There was one sheet and a thin quilt. I never slept well at my husband’s family’s house because it was too cold. I always spent the night shivering or trying to find a spare blanket. I’m not someone who changes other people’s thermostat settings, because it’s very personal and I wouldn’t want someone doing it for me. This is why I had to get creative. I packed a few pairs of fuzzy socks, sweatpants, and thick sweatshirts. I even packed a hat just in case I couldn’t get warm with the other cozy items. Before I went to bed, I layed up and snuggled into bed. For the first time, I actually slept in that freezing house!
