My dad is an HVAC technician and it’s been his only career since he graduated high school.
I don’t know much about HVAC systems, but I do know that my dad is highly referred to within the industry so he stays pretty busy.
There are two times during the year where he is more busy than usual. His busy season is always in the spring and fall, because these are the times when people are switching between their air conditioners and furnaces. Growing up, it was always expected that my dad would be at work before I woke up for the day, and well into the evening, sometimes after I’d already gone to bed. It never seemed to bother him because he loved being an HVAC technician and that’s all that matters. I didn’t appreciate his work until I got older and started living in apartments and dorms without proper HVAC systems. Thankfully, my dad did whatever he could to make sure I was comfortable and wasn’t living without working AC or heat. When I bought my first home, my dad began tuning my HVAC system for free and he was always available to fix whatever went wrong. This has been really nice, because HVAC servicing can be expensive. I do have to wait to have my AC and furnace serviced until after the busy season because he’s always so busy, but it’s worth it. I’m really lucky to have a dad who is a reliable HVAC technician who’s really good at what he does.
